I gave Mason the most recent Game of Thrones book. I love it when he's reading this series because he gets so wrapped up in the story. He'll finish a chapter and then come tell me all about what happened with his eyes sparkling and his words full of enthusiasm. It warms my heart.

For me, he got me a leather jacket that I mentioned once, in passing. I can't believe that he remembered the name of the catalog, remembered my description of the jacket and my size, and then went out and bought it! It's awesome, it's a really thin leather that is perfect for Texas climate.

BUT. I am burying the lede here! The big, super, awesome present that Mason gave me!
DRUMROLL!
He got his name legally changed!
When we got married, we decided that, regarding names, we would both take Peatross as each of our last and Poel as each of our middles. It was important to me that we BOTH change our identity in some way, not just me. Well, it turns out that Texas emphatically does NOT have gender equality on this issue. I was able to change my middle and last names simply by showing a marriage certificate. And for Mason, it was also that easy at the Social Security office. But not at the DMV. The state of Texas won't change his name without a court proceeding, simply because he is male. So for three years that's been hanging out there as something I wanted done, but that we never got around to spending the money and hassle on. Well, he's been secretly taking care of this business, getting fingerprinted, filling out paperwork, getting notarized, etc etc etc. He made sure to get the legal decision done ON our anniversary. He told me that the judge asked him questions about why he was changing his name, and he explained and told her that it was his anniversary present to his wife. She said to the court, "All you single guys out there, you need to take a lesson in romance from this guy." So it is now official court record that my husband is the most romantic of all. :-)

I was REALLY impressed and DEFINITELY felt romanced. My new H&M sparkle tights were not impressed, and neither was Dumpster, but whatevs.

For our plans, we originally intended to head up to the Domain and have dinner at NoRTH, and then walk around the Domain holding hands looking at things and petting dogs that people would be out walking. However, we got on Mopac and traffic was at a standstill, so we made a last-minute decision to re-route to downtown.
We decided to have dinner at La Condesa. When we got there, there was an hour wait for an inside table, so we took an outside table. They had patio heaters going, so it was fine, and it was pretty to sit out there among the twinkle lights. The guacamole was delicious, but the meal was simply fine while the service was terrible. But La Condesa has been on the list for a long time, so now we can say we've experienced it and not bother with them again.

After that we walked up to the W Hotel to get a drink at The Living Room bar. That place was really cool! Very charming and fun! It had multiple rooms and each room had a different vibe. There was a room lit in red that was more of a swanky, meet-people kind of vibe. There was an open space that seemed good for larger groups. The room we chose had a fireplace, big library shelves, and super comfy chairs.

Two thumbs up. A++++++++ Would lounge again.
Then it was time to head to Violet Crown where we were seeing the 8:30 showing of Silver Linings Playbook. We liked the movie, but frankly I don't see all the hype about it being the best indie of the year. ::shrug::
And with that, our 3rd anniversary was complete. It's been an excellent three years and I hope there are decades upon decades more to come.
