ACL: The Verdict

So Mason and I have never been to Austin City Limits music festival before, but last week he won free tickets at trivia. It's a 3 day festival, going from noon to 10:00 pm on Friday, on Saturday, and on Sunday.

My verdict is that I enjoyed it but wouldn't want to do it again. ACL is really a test of endurance. You're outside for hour after hour, in the 90+ degree heat with the sun beating down on you. Standing, walking, standing, walking. Trying to find a shady spot to "nap" on the dirt when it gets to be too much. On the entire first day, neither of us used the bathroom once, because we were sweating so profusely it was taking up all the fluids in our bodies.

It was so hard on our bodies that we both got sick and right now we are both snotty, achy messes. Both Saturday and Sunday we left halfway through the headliner act because we were so wrecked, even though the headliner acts (Depeche Mode and the Cure) were the ones we'd been super excited about. Mason didn't even go on Sunday and I went on my own but ended up just sitting in the shade listening to whatever stage I was nearby and talking to the people around me. I left midway through even though there were still bands left I was interested in, because I was just done.

So that's my verdict. Fun, but too hard.
